Description

Within the field of conflict resolution, there is a strong emphasis on conducting training programs in order to impart and share skills and knowledge with target populations. Conflict resolution training activities can range from working with high school aged youth within a peer-mediation program, to training participants from two sides of a civil or community conflict.

In this two-day workshop, participants will begin to develop the skills to create and implement successful trainings with people from diverse backgrounds and communities. Through experiential exercises, brief presentations, and coaching, the workshop will emphasize the skills and critical thinking needed to design effective training programs.

The workshop is suitable for entry-level to mid-level professionals with previous knowledge or experience in conflict resolution. Topics to be covered include:

  • The A to Z of conflict training programs from logistics to implementation
  • How to create effective yet flexible training plans and activities
  • Essential training skills
  • Developing training scripts
  • Practice training with peer review
  • Approaches to evaluation in training

By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have increased their knowledge and skills to assist them in developing and conducting more effective trainings. Each participant will receive a resource packet with recommended resources in the field (both online and in print). In addition, a listserv will be established to provide on-going support and feedback after the conclusion of the workshop. The workshop fee also includes a light lunch.
