Robert Harris, PhD

Robert Harris was one of the co-founders of the Alliance for Conflict Transformation (ACT), an international NGO dedicated to building peace through innovative research and practice. Dr. Harris specializes in developing and implementing conflict resolution programs for educators and youth. He has a doctorate from George Mason University's Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution. His doctoral research focused on peer mediator modeling and disputant learning.
Dr. Harris served as Director, ACT-Pacific ) and as Senior Partner ). He has trained over 750 adults and youth from Bosnia, Central Asia, Cyprus, Georgia/Abkhazia, Indonesia, the Middle East, Northern Ireland, and South Korea. He has authored numerous conflict resolution and peer mediation curricula materials, and is a court approved mediator in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Dr. Harris spent 9 years developing and coordinating the Fairfax County Public Schools Conflict Resolution and Peer Mediation Program. In that capacity, he helped develop 150 conflict resolution and peer mediation programs, trained over 4,000 adults and youth, conducted two program evaluations, mediated over 500 hours of workplace, group/gang, and family conflicts ranging in size from 2 to 66 people, and coordinated a student mediation conference attended annually by over 2,500 students and staff.
